Feeling Rich
There's a British programme on pay-tv that I am slightly addicted to. It's called Secret Millionaire. You may have seen it. A multi-millionaire goes into a down-trodden, poor community as just another guy and gets a job helping a volunteer organisation set up to service local disadvantaged residents. By the end of the show, he writes cheques for thousands of pounds to support the local charities and people he's come to understand. Russell Crowe's done an Australian version too.
I have not seen a program yet where the millionaire hasn't been emotionally moved by how they have changed the lives of so many people just by the act of giving. But wait ... there's more ... it's not about the money. It's about giving and receiving. The undercover millionaires end up in tears because of what they receive in a very humbling way from these people. They come to realise that the world is not about things, long hours, money and status ... it's about people caring for each other .. and as a result the millionaire changes his perspective and needs. They are truly moved by how much the local volunteers give to their fellow citizens even though the volunteers have comparatively nothing.
Being able to give to others makes them rich. Giving to others has benefits ... it creates a better world.
You can feel good about yourself when you give to others because you reveal an admirable, loving side of yourself. If you are on a self-development path ... forget the books ... forget the expensive courses.. grow by giving. Something amazing is birthed within you each time you give, and it performs a remarkable transformation on your overall being. Giving makes you rich with happiness.
Too often, we don't give because we either are thinking that we don't have enough for ourselves, or we only give if we get something (presumably of equal value) in return. Both come from an attitude of lack ... wouldn't you rather an attitude of abundance? You are in true abundance with the Universe when you create flow rather than stagnation.
What sort of example do you set for your children? Giving sets an example for your children, family and friends to do the same. Too many of us sit back and say "you go first" in all aspects of our lives. When you give, you start a ripple effect that expands from those closest to you and reaches people you do not even know.
Those secret millionaires discover something that all their business acumen, all their smarts and knowledge, didn't prepare them for. A single act of giving can change the lives of more people than they will ever know ... and each time they give, they bring their world one step closer to complete harmony.
If you are reading this newsletter to learn more about how the Universe works in your life, here's the lesson ... the more you give away, the more you have. You are like a cup that automatically fills up again every time you pour something out. When you share your blessings, you receive more blessings in return. Giving makes you rich in the things that matter most.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Why is it important to give?
2. Who should you give to?
3. When was the last time you shared your blessings with others?
